Liberty Life – 2022

An often-overlooked element of office building revamps is the accessibility of the facility. Turnstar recently assisted with the renovation of the entrance building at Liberty Life’s offices in Braamfontein.

Turnstar CEO, Craig Sacks says: “While we are not interior designers or civil engineers, we have many years of working alongside property developers, builders and the people tasked with creating an inviting interior and we are therefore able to specify the most aesthetically pleasing access barriers for each location. In addition, we are specialists in selecting the optimum security solution in terms of the ingress and egress of people in a controlled manner.”

The scope of work at the Liberty Life offices included the supply and installation of four Speedgate Express lanes, each 550 mm wide, as well as two Pulse Special Needs Gates for wheelchair access.

The Speedgate Express lanes are designed with a highly sophisticated anti-tamper detection facility which prevents tailgating, unauthorised pedestrian direction, and crawling. The electronic output provides a building security alert instruction, for example, to lock doors or activate CCTV. Additionally, LED lights indicate an alert with a red cross and an internal buzzer sounds.

The Pulse Special Needs Gates have a 180° opening and remain open while the wheelchair is still passing through, which allows for safe and unimpeded access of wheelchairs and baby buggies. The gates have a frameless, toughened safety glass wing and 170 mm diameter 304 grade brushed stainless steel upright post. During power outages, the glass wing can be easily moved by hand (a UPS can be fitted) and a trigger allows automatic opening in a preset direction in the event of fire. The gates readily integrate with all access control and time & attendance systems.
